Tony Shayne - Two Tracks from Summer Lovers

 Another double upload snapshotting late 80s proto house and cheesiness here.

Tony Shayne seems to have fallen through the cracks of the early wave of Chicago house, with a number of his records on Illinois based Nep-Tune Records going overlooked and un-uploaded.

The design of this record got me drawn in while digging up in Queensland, with the Nep-Tune logo and bright pink lips dripping in early dance music experimentalism, I had to have a further listen. 

The first upload, True Blue, is from the Radio Side where all three tracks are far more cheesy. A could have been hit, Shayne is juvenile and heartfelt in his sultry confessions of love, it feels like True Blue could have been on the Top Gun soundtrack in an alternate reality.

Kiss Off (Remix) comes from the Remix Side and has a more endearing array of 80s pop elements for a slept on proto-house jam. Remixed by producers Grant Austin and Larry Strum, who worked on a number of early Chicago classics from Ten City, 'Silk' Hurley and even Larry Heard, it further adds credit the mystique of Tony Shayne as a could have been legend of the early Chicago scene. 

Do-Re-Mi - Deep Blue Sea

 Digitally unheard b-side from Australian pop group Do-Re-Mi next up.

Picked this up at a small vintage store in Point Lonsdale outside of Melbourne for cheap. 

Despite most of  Do-Re-Mi's output being pretty cheesy Australian 80s stuff, I took a punt on this. 

Luckily it payed off with a more interesting b-side, taking influences from UK synth-pop sounds and bending traditional pop conventions.

Jackie - Break Away

New upload is an off-kilter UK lovers rock tune from Jackie.

Looks like a pretty small amount pressed in 1986, to me this tune represents the experimentalism and often buried gems of 20th century vinyl in the UK

A few of Jackie's already uploaded tracks have driven popularity and discogs prices up, this one as yet remains affordable but rare. 

I love the off-key vocals, simple percussion and laid back vibe of this one. Glad to be the guy to put this on my channel.

Two tunes from Grow! Records

 Double upload of some lesser known cuts on Austrian label Grow! Records.

Ever since my friend William showed me this label I fell in love with the art, sound and in particular the price of the records.

Grow! released a bunch of EPs of Tech-house in the late 1990s from Austria, which capture the hypnosis of the early sound of the genre while carrying through some of the disco sampling that was prevalent in the European house scene at the time.

The first is a track off their second various artists compilation Grow! for it Vol. 2, by DJ Cartman a combination of all label heads that also produced as the Last Disco Superstars. 

The second is from one of the label heads Christian Mahringer as Jeremiah on their second I-levels EP. 

The first I-levels EP was my first Grow! record and will forever remain in my bag for the late hours.

I ordered the second EP for crazy cheap after hearing the B2 cut on the YouTube channel of legendary Japanese producer Mr. YT.

The track I have uploaded here, the A1, is as chaotic as it is euphoric, journeying into experimental techno but bringing in flashes of Detroit house as only Grow! could do.

Indurain - Spirits (Heavy Dub)

 Bought this one online blind and pumped to have a deep, bongo laden dub cut to share.

Indurain was a French house group that produced a few vocal, offbeat tracks and a singular, self-titled album from 1993, members of the group also contributed to the French scene under various other aliases and groups.

First got into looking into Indurain through them having a track on the now sought after Paris Union Recording compilation, looking through their releases and listening to their album. Big tip for Falling in Love off that release, a kind of street soul house jam reminiscent of  Toyin Agbetu's work on Intrigue records.

Spirits was also on the album and the original version is charmingly obscure and intriguing in its own right. But the Heavy Dub, luckily for me, chopped up the vocal, brought in some beautiful pads and seems to typify the playfulness and experimentalism of house music in the early 90s.
