Smoove Society - Dance Floor (Full Lenght)

More house stuff up here on the channel now!

This one comes via Swedish label BTB Records. Sublabel of SweMix records which was a powerhouse in Swedish releases of the late 80s and early 90s.

Urban Dance Sound Vol.1 is a compilation of a bunch of producers that also appeared on other BTB and SweMix releases. Some have already appeared on YouTube  including the other Smoove Society track on the record.

I can't manage to dig up anything on Smoove Society. Can't even track down a name. All I know is the two tracks on this record are bangers.

Dance Floor (Full Lenght) is energetic and fun. There's elements of UK rave classics, a driving bassline, chaotic percussion and a vocal sample that's both haunting and inviting.

It's a real under the radar European house gem, complete with a playful typo.

Big week in the studio!

Had a mega week covering three shows on PBS this week!

First up, incredible honour to cover Mike Gurrieri's Mystic Brew. Brought some old street soul bits and went into soulful house! Click the photo to listen.

Then had the chance to cover Pony's Chronicle's of Kick Ons. Four hours of all sorts! Jazz, New Wave, wonky Disco and finishing with some nice new age morning business. Hit the pic!

Brought it home Friday night stepping in for Jonny Alexander on Audio Vitamins. Just packed a bag of house records and turned it up!

Hopefully back on soon!

Angel's House's Angel's House EP

Back into some house music on the channel now, with some UK sleepers from the Eukahouse label.

Known in my head for releasing lots of work by Nils Hess and Nathan Coles under their 'Get Fucked' alias, Eukahouse was seminal in shaping the tasteful tech house of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

This particular release seems to have slipped through the cracks as opposed to many of the other well revered, often highly priced, Eukahouse records.

Maybe that's because there's not a lot of information about Angel's House. No other releases, no other credits, just this incredible record.

Can it be a one hit wonder if the whole EP is awesome? Angel's House (Deep Mix) has already been up on YouTube for a while, but for some reason the b-side has gone unheard... until now.

The Ground really is a beautiful tune. A bubbling bassline underscores stripped-back acoustic piano, and you can really hear the Detroit influence in the glimmering and chaotic drum programming.

Similarly, all amazing elements of a deep house classic come together for Santonio (Shame Myself Mix). More driving, the strings that ripple across the high end are sure to force hands into the air. Organic bongo percussion rolls are although worthy of note.

I really find it hard to believe that this gem slipped through the cracks given the amount of attention that Eukahouse has got over the last few decades. But as usual, I'm selfishly glad that it did, because I get to share it with you instead!

Simone Dee & The Desires - Move On You

Some under the radar synth-pop bits from Sydney based Simone Dee.

Dee released this album with The Desires 1986 as well as another self-titled solo-album released the following year with a number of the same tracks.

Along with a string of singles released on the same Flamingo Label, Dee also went on to work with the likes of seminal DJ Paul Mac and there are also claims I couldn't substantiate that she taught Nikki Webster.

Despite this career, the albums seem to go under appreciated by Australian 80s pop aficionados. Come On Boys, which is also on the self-titled album, was featured on the fantastic Growing Bin Records channel a few years ago. The track I've selected is yet to see the internet.

Move On You is a moody, a new wave ballad that never was. Beautiful pads and keys echo across a haunting riff that seems inches away from being a chart topper like We Can Get Together or Send Me An Angel.
