2 Dope Productions - Driftin

Early 90s UK house cut up now on the channel.

2 Dope Productions is one of the many aliases of Ricky Morrison and Martin Watson. Together under this moniker and various others they produced all the output for Mighty Rider records.

Ricky Morrison also had a considerable career as a solo producer, appearing on hundreds of records across labels like Strictly Rhythmn, Cutting Traxx and Azuli.

Martin Watson had a less commercially successful career, but his under the radar dub productions for the small Dredbeat Records are seriously good finds, combining elements of hip-hop, ragga and dancehall.

The Mighty Rider EP was the label's first release in 1991, apparently taking tracks from a forthcoming album Spreading the Message, which never saw the light of day.

In a style that seemed to be all the rage at the start of the 90s in the UK, one side is early house groovers and the other is downtempo chillers. Body Work, also from the a-side is also particularly good.

Driftin has funky bongos, great solos and vocal chops over a grooving bassline. A underground classic.

Also if in Melbourne on the weekend - celebrating Raffy's first birthday on Saturday! Going to be epic - I am on 8pm-10pm:

Vertigo Hypo - Hypo Rhino (Tribal Nocturnal Rainforest Mix)

Another rarely heard cut from seminal Frankston label Vicious Vinyl up now.

Previously I've uploaded this rip from Bubbleman last year, and this is similarly a b-side cut hidden on a cheesy trance record.

This is an early label release from 1992, and the only by Vertigo Hypo an alias for Bryan St. James.

James had a few now soughtafter releases on cult Melbourne label Azwan Transmissions throughout the 1990s and appeared on various compilations on labels like Dancenet.

As Vertigo Hypo, James goes into a psychedelic, tribal infused, strange mode to produce quite a singular record. The Tribal Nocturnal Rainforest Mix features freaky quasi-animal noises, Korg M1 flute solos and energetic drum programming.

I'm stoked to have dug it up for the channel, hope you enjoy!
