Another obscure Melbourne CD pickup online now, this time from Cosmetic Records.
Based out of Albert Park, Paul Main and Tony Crea released a few 12 inches of heavily disco influenced house music.
This compilation from 1998 was the label's first release, which still has a lot of relatively cheesy disco house, but a few forgotten gems. It also notably has an early production from DJ Jnett!
The two I've selected are from Moisture Rich Foundation, a group that included Robert Goodge (Essendon Airport member and one third of Filthy Lucre), Paul Main (Cosmetic label head and another third of Filthy Lucre) and John McCall (contributor to Razor Records Compilation Razor Cuts).
Moods, goes from piano solos to scintillating Latin house before it dives into an acid breakdown.
Stone City also more beautiful key solos against the backdrop of warm, playful chords.
Together, they present a window into the chaotic and beautiful melting pot dance music production scenes can be. A sort lived collaboration flash in the pan collaboration that may never be replicated but is permanently recorded with these two productions.
Here are some more photos of the CD:
